SUNDAY FINDS

Some Sunday inspirational finds I came across this morning. Oh how I wish I had the room to store these guys until I could sell them.20140119-094748.jpg20140119-095010.jpgThis chest needs a little sanding and staining. That’s all to restore it back to its original shine. The top tray could be lined with a colorful liner to give it a surprising personality when it’s open.20140119-095735.jpgI could see these chairs in a funky fun color maybe a mint, turquoise or coral. With a graphic or floral print for the cushions. Because it’s two chairs available I’d place them in either end of a dining table. Remember, not all your chairs need to match.20140119-100728.jpgI can picture this cabinet in a huge bathroom. The paint I’d swap out for white. Replace the hardware and the top doors with an etched glass door. Here’s an example of the etched glass.20140119-101629.jpg Happy Sunday everyone! Like my page on Facebook.com/kolarosedesigns

MIDNIGHT NAUTICAL

Browsing around today in my local Marshall’s I came across this beautiful candle lantern. It inspired me to illustrate on how I would decorate a bachelor pad’s bedroom.
20140116-212845.jpgThe store had two available which would be perfect for the space. Let me help paint the picture for you.
This room has warm neutral wall coloring. However to add a little more contrast I’ll add in some wainscoting and paint it. Below are some examples of what I have in mind.
20140116-225534.jpgThe picture above was a perfect find! The bottom wall color I would use exactly as is but in the bedroom. 20140116-225642.jpg This color swatch would be the wall paint. A few generic pictures would lay along the walls. Now here’s where the fun comes in. Those candle lanterns would be hung from a wrought iron hook above these (below pic) side tables by the bed.
20140118-102947.jpg The decorative throw pillows would be made of this fabric. It ties in from the actual ropes on the candle lantern.
20140118-103158.jpgThe bed covering would be displayed as a duvet cover. Again I’m taking some color from the walls and bringing it to the bed to tie the colors together.
20140118-105314.jpg Windows will be draped in the fabric shown below. I chose this because of the lines again reminding me the ties and knots to again pull together a nautical theme.
20140118-105748.jpg
20140118-105938.jpgI love grommet hole drapes. Their easy to open and close. I love the pleating look it gives when open. So yes, just replace the fabric and you’ll have my design. The flooring is a dark stained hardwood as seen below with a area rug below the bed.
So now that you’ve read my visual design on a nautical bachelor pad. What do you think? Can you envision it?

HAPPY NEW YEAR/WISH LIST

Now that 2013 is gone. I’m looking forward to all great adventures of 2014 including taking on some Reno projects at my house. I came across somethings on Craigslist today. But I really wish I had a place to store all my pieces I come across that I could use for a future project for myself or a potential client. Here’s what I found:
20140101-172112.jpgThe first thing that came to mind about these doors was designing a Moroccan theme room around these doors. They can be used as room dividers or pocket doors.
20140101-173901.jpgIm still on the hunt for a Queen headboard. Although, this stood out just a bit for me. But didn’t completely sell me just yet but thought I’d share it with you anyway. I’d just sand and paint this baby and call it a day!
20140101-174405.jpgLastly I love this deco dresser. It could be used in multiple ways. As an entertainment center. Place under your wall mounted tv and store electronics, place some decorative picture frames with a nice floral arrangement. Or, it can be used as a double bathroom vanity. Of course, I’d change the hardware, sand and paint it. It be looking good as new!
What’s your New Years Resolutions this year, if you have any?

PLEASE DO NOT DISTURB

Do you have a place in your home where you can just relax and unwind? If not, after seeing this post you may want to reconsider. Men have their caves, and we should too! You don’t necessarily need to transform the space you’d like to unwind in. However, if you have the extra room and a budget for it by all means GO FOR IT! Just be sure to come back and show the transformations.

IS THIS SEAT TAKEN?

When looking for chair(s) furniture we look for two things…comfort and style. However, in some cases comfort isn’t what your looking for, but more or less style to decorate a room. I’ve got a little bit of everything to give you some ideas for your next room! Take a look and tell me what styles you like to see in your next makeover.
20131102-200038.jpgIf you’ve got a little extra room in your kitchen you can possibly add a nook to give more seating for you and your family.
20131102-200513.jpgLove the colors in what looks like a formal living room. Don’t be afraid to bring in colors and different patterns.
20131102-200528.jpgLucite (ghost) chairs work wonders. Here’s what I mean. If you have a small space the clearness of the chair gives the illusion that the room is bigger, because it’s not blocking any views. Add colorful pillows to bring life to the chair and give your room a little texture.
20131102-202132.jpg20131102-202156.jpgPatio furniture has come a long way with color too! If you’ve got patio furniture that’s in good condition try taking it on as a weekend project. A little sweat equity goes a long way plus you might just surprise yourself at what you can do.

HOLIDAY (TABLE) SCAPPING

It’s about that time of year again! Holiday lovers decorate their tables with their seasons essentials to bring together friends and family for a time of celebrations. Do you tablescape for the holidays? If not, there might be something to inspire you to add to your table this year. Add a little or a lot.

P.S. Please send in pics of your table decorating.

SORRY, I’M ALREADY TAKEN

When was the last time you looked to Craigslist for furniture pieces?! Did you know its still a great place to look for hidden gems. I found this beauty below on the site, as excited as I was to be the potential owner someone else got to it before I did. Whomp Whomp!
20131024-191214.jpgI have been looking so long for a queen headboard (+ footboard), to update my bed. The price was well in my budget ($25). My loss is now someone’s gain. I’m going to have to keep a close eye on the site to make sure I don’t miss another gorgeous find.

Here are a few of my tips on what I would’ve done, if I got to it first! Because my side tables are black and the room theme is romantic with a touch of glam.

– Change the wood stain to a high gloss black.

I love the rattan inserts however, I would’ve like to show off the line details of the headboard. –

– Replace it with some pops of color, like this:
20131024-194204.jpgWhat I love about this fabric is the pop of colors. Because of the romantic theme space; you’ve gotta add some red. I love birds and Chinese ancient history. I naturally gravitated towards this because of its portrait of nature and history.

IT’S ALL IN THE DETAILS

It’s been a while since I’ve found an inspirational piece to share with you all. But I think this maybe worth the wait. If I had the room or could remodel one for a client, I’d like to purchase this gem and turn it into a bathroom vanity.

20131015-111051.jpg What I LOVE most about this piece is its details throughout!

Here’s what I would do:

– Apply polyurethane, to bring the sparkle and shine back to life.
– Add new hardware (crystal/glass) to the draws and doors.
– Replace the top with quartz, and a modern sink.

Below are some ideas of what I have in mind for the sink and countertop.

Last but not least for this dresser I’d remove the wheels from the bottom. I can always use those for another project.

I’ve always been a fan of these side tables. They look excellent in an entryway or a foyer. Again nothing much I’d change other then add a mirror inside to show off the details.

Latest Venture

I was hoping to write yesterday as I’m home on Monday’s from work. But really that day is reserved for errands & cleaning house. While I was busy doing the above. I had a decision to make write about something yesterday or work on something and write about it early this morning before going to work. So that’s what I did. I made a set pillow case yesterday! At some point I’d like to sell them but for now I’m just getting the dust off my crafting skills. Over a year and a half ago I posted some pieces of my work. For my first client I made drapes for their living room and kitchen. I also dabbled in making a roman shade and custom chair cover and for my first time I did a pretty good job! I was impressed by it myself actually. Below is my latest…

These are my existing euro pillows. The pillow cases that I had previously when I purchased them matched the sheets (khaki color-wise).  I removed the previous pillow cases and replaced them with a new pair!
Sorry for the photos looking a bit fuzzy, I took them last night and was so excited to show it to you today. I’ll have better quality ones soon to show off. I’m hoping to get to another set completed this weekend. The pillow cases, they are interchangeable. You can change them at anytime.
I almost forgot, yesterday was Cyber Monday. Did you find any good deals?!
